New KAP books

After 2 or more years new KAP books appeared. Craig Wilson’s book “Hanging by a thread” and Gerrit Bart Volgers’ “Terschelling in vliegervlucht”.

Craig’s book already got many positive comments on Benton’s Discussion pages. Gerrit Bart’s book is equally good but much less known, sofar.

Gerrit Bart Volgers lives and works on an island called Terschelling in the North of the Netherlands. And that’s where all 67 pictures in the book were made.

Some of the pictures in the book are published on Flickr (where new ones can be seen too) and on Gerrit Bart’s website (Dutch text).

Gerrit Bart got the idea to go KAPing while he was kite fishing. He still uses his fishing equipment and that might explain why all photos in the book are made on more or less the same height. Often that leads to some boredom. Not in this case. It is a binding element.

Gerrit Bart was his own publisher for this book and got 1500 copies of it printed. Half of them are already sold to the islanders. KAPshop will get a small stock of them soon. So KAP book collectors, grab your chance.
The book has a hardcover and measures 30 by 22 cm.

1906 San Francisco Earthquake Reshoot

Photographer George Lawrence documented the damage of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake by lifting his panoramic camera over the city using a series of kites. Together with Drachen Foundation, I plan to reshoot his photo using modern day equipment and techniques. More >>>
